Movies:

I had forgotten to post my thoughts on the last few movies Jim and I have watched. As I mentioned earlier this month, we saw The Bourne Supremacy. A most excellent movie, I highly recommend it if you liked the first one (I thought this one was better).

We also saw I, Robot. Also a good movie, I was pleasantly surprised by that one. We bought HellBoy … I was afraid it would be campy, but enjoyed it.

Last weekend we saw Alien vs. Predator … save your money, this one’s a renter! The movie wasn’t bad, but the plot had serious holes. Some of the scenes were so dark you could barely tell what’s going on. The plot turns were very obvious. And in my opinion, it didn’t have enough blood and gore to be worthy of the title.

We also watched The Chronicles of Riddick. I’ve been drooling over this one for a while … Vin Diesel is one of my favorite “aesthetic” actors. (By this, I mean he looks good and I couldn’t care less how badly he may act! LOL) It wasn’t that bad. The storyline was interesting, the imagery was dark and beautiful, the sound was a bit screwed up. The dialog was hard to hear at times, and the battle scenes (though cool) were VERY LOUD!

Hero with Jet Li hit the theatres today, and that’s the next one I want to see …

Introspection …

Introspection. noun. - the contemplation of your own thoughts and desires and conduct.

I’ve done a lot of thinking lately … yeah, I’m a thinker. I think and reflect on nearly everything … and I have a bad habit of dwelling on the past. I look around, examine my life, scrutinize the What If’s.

Recently I began to closely examine my websites, trying to decide where to take them next. This site is always my primary because it is my namesake. I had often wanted to register DollfaceProductions.com or something similar. 1.) Because it always sounded so business-like … and 2.) it is a name/phrase I have used in my works and publishings almost as long as I have called myself Nitallica. I was nicknamed Dollface by someone very dear to me. I think I liked it because of the person that he was, and the endearing feeling I felt when he called me that.

Only one other person has ever made me feel that way, and I am with him today. (It will be officially 2 years next week, in fact!)

But I digress … I began to think about the name Nitallica. I of course have Nitallica.org and .net, but will most likely let .net run out next month because the hosting company’s transferral rates alone are 5 times the domain cost of my other sites. I lost Nitallica.com years ago to a young man in Germany with a hardon for my name. I did not own the domain, it was given to me by a friend, but when it came time to transfer the domain to my registrar, it was denied and the domain expired before I could get it renewed. Upon the new owner’s registration, I offered to pay for it, and we made a deal … he however backed out of it two weeks later saying that he thought my name was cool and he wanted to keep it.

I guess I could come up with a new domain name … after all, there’s really nothing holding me to this one except memories. My site first started out on Geocities — long before it merged with Yahoo! My account was cancelled due to excessive bandwidth — I had a popular site, and was forced to go elsewhere.

Various other freehosts later, I finally settled on getting a “real” (read: actually pay for it) host, so I settled with Pair after hearing very high recommendations from a good friend of mine. (Speaking of which: Sam, you coonass, email me sometime!) However, all of my other hobby sites are now hosted with Lunarpages, and I will be moving this domain over in December when my contract with Pair expires.

I’m not unhappy with Pair or anything, Lunarpages has a much better offer and it’s cheaper. Also, PHP/CGI comes standard with their entry-level accounts, so I’ll be able to convert everything to PHP … which is something I’ve been dying to do. I’m not great at it, but can easily muss up anything pre-written. I figure the best way for me to learn would be to totally screw up my site, then try to fix it! *grin*

Summer’s over and it’s school time again …

The past few weeks have been really busy, I’ve had little time to stop to catch my breath, much less do anything else. We have spent the last few weeks working on a multimedia project for work. Jim has set up a multimedia server in our living room, complete with surround sound speakers all over the room. It was wicked watching The Last Samurai, it sounded like thunderstorms were coming out of my hearth and fireplace, LOL!

We spent part of the day yesterday at my grandmother’s house near Birmingham. She was having a family reunion, so all of the family on my mother’s side were there. Jessie loved it because there were so many grandkids and great-grandkids around her age, so she had many playmates and constant entertainment. :) I saw a lot of relatives I haven’t seen since I was a kid, met some I had heard about for many years but never met. Saw a few that I wished were of no relation to me, but oh well, what can you do … you can’t pick your relatives.

After we left Grandma’s house, we had to go to Jessie’s school for her orientation. It wasn’t too bad, we sat and listened to a short speech, met the new teachers, and had a tour around the school. We got to meet Jessie’s teacher, and I liked her at once. She seemed very nice, and seemed the type who knew how to handle kids — which made me feel a lot better. Jessie doesn’t have the greatest social skills, and is improving, but she needs to have someone look over her who won’t take guff from kids, or she’d walk right over them. (I should know! LOL)

Jessie started her first day of 1st grade today. I walked her into school this morning, because I had to help her carry all of her supplies into her classroom. I got to speak with her teacher again this morning, gave her mine and Jim’s work numbers in case she needed them. She assured me that she’s the type of teacher to contact a parent if she sees a consistent behavior problem in a child, rather than let it go on all year and the parent find out at year’s end. Jessie’s kindergarten teacher was very nice, a very sweet woman and a good teacher, but we didn’t find out about some of the stuff she was doing at school until year’s end. So again, I like her new teacher. :)

Of course, taking Jessie into school (rather than just dropping her off at the door like usual) and talking to her new teacher made me late for work. To be honest, I don’t care. My last supervisor was consistently late, and they let it go on for YEARS, and never said a word to him about it. I feel I can afford to be late once in a blue moon. Although I’m sure I got some disapproving looks because I wore shorts today. Oh well. :P
