We need more of this guy

Smurfed from Michelle Malkin:
“Joey Vento, the grandson of Italian-born immigrants who owns Geno’s (in Philadelphia), is taking a stand for assimilation and against illegal immigration. The Inquirer does its best to knock down Vento, but his blunt Philly style overrides the paper’s wishy-washy open-borders slant:”
How do you say cheesesteak with in Spanish?
Joseph Vento, the owner of Geno’s Steaks, doesn’t know. And he doesn’t care.
Just read the laminated signs, festooned with American eagles, at his South Philadelphia cheesesteak emporium: This is America. When Ordering, Speak English.
Vento’s political statement – from a man whose Italian-born grandparents spoke only broken English – captures the anger and discontent felt by many Americans about illegal immigrants…
…The Ventos rarely left their South Philadelphia neighborhood. Now, in a way, the neighborhood has left the couple’s descendants. Geno’s sits at Ninth and Passyunk, the hub of Little Italy turned home to thousands of Mexicans.
Some try to order a cheesesteak. And it bugs Vento if they can’t ask for American cheese, provolone or the classic – Cheez Whiz – without pointing.
“If you can’t tell me what you want, I can’t serve you,” he said. “It’s up to you. If you can’t read, if you can’t say the word cheese, how can I communicate with you – and why should I have to bend?
“I got a business to run.”
Vento, who lives in Shamong, put up the signs when the immigration debate seized national headlines six months ago.
With Geno’s Steaks tattooed on his arm, Vento is used to publicizing things, especially what’s on his mind. Speak English signs also poster his Hummer. He has driven through South Philadelphia blaring through the SUV’s P.A. system denunciations of neighborhood business owners who hire illegal immigrants.
“I say what everybody’s thinking but is afraid to say,” Vento said.
Good for him, I say! We need more Americans speaking up and speaking out about this!!

Jessie was helping me with the laundry tonight. I had her hanging shirts on hangers so I could put them away in the closet. She kept analyzing which shirt was whose based on the size (of course she didn’t know all were Large — Jim’s heh).
At one point she said “This one’s Daddy’s!”
I asked her “How do you know?”
“It said ‘L’ on all of those, but this one’s definitely his ‘cuz it says ‘G’ for GIGANTIC!!”
 I couldn’t keep a straight face through that one!
Surely they jest!?

I was scrolling through some of my news feeds and one caught my eye: “Pedophiles to launch political party”
I thought to myself, “You have GOT to be kidding!” They’re not.
“Dutch pedophiles are launching a political party to push for a cut in the legal age for sexual relations to 12 from 16 and the legalization of child pornography and sex with animals, sparking widespread outrage.”
Ad Van den Berg told Reuters: “We want to get into parliament so we have a voice. Other politicians only talk about us in a negative sense, as if we were criminals.”
 Uh … HELLOOOOOOO!!!!
Sex with children is not only sick and immoral, it’s illegal. That makes you “criminals.”
The Proposed Pedo Party goes on to say: “Toddlers should be given sex education and youths aged 16 and up should be allowed to appear in pornographic films and prostitute themselves. Sex with animals should be allowed although abuse of animals should remain illegal.”
Yeah, I’m sure that sheep that you’ve been shagging is OK with it as long as you don’t slap it around … that would be abuse.
I think I can take the Netherlands off the list of countries I’d like to visit.
(No offense to my fav Dutchies, but your country is more fscked up than mine! ;P)

How long will this go on?
May 29, 2006 by Nicki
Dad called the house early this morning. Basically he wanted to invite us over to the house to eat a bit and go swimming. Of course, about a minute into the conversation he clarifies the “us” as just me and Jessie. I told him that Jim will not let Jessie go over there, Dad said that was fine and I could still come over there. I asked him how long this was going to continue. His response: “Until I see some improvement over there.”
 Excuse me?
Dad made it clear that Jim wasn’t welcome in his house. Fine. I told him that I would not go anywhere Jim can’t. The conversation pretty much ended there.
*sigh* Truth is, I had hoped to go over there today. All of us, that is. I still have Mom’s Mother’s Day present. And I have Dad’s and Jeremy’s birthday gifts. Plus, I hear Jeremy was supposed to be bringing his new girlfriend over.
Jim woke up when the phone rang and came downstairs just after I hung up. I figure he probably heard my side of the conversation … for years, he’s stood by and just listened. I’m sure at times one couldn’t help but hear, especially when my and Dad’s arguments became heated. Hell, my neighbors can probably hear me.
Honestly, I can’t see this getting any better anytime soon. The interesting bit will be this upcoming Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. If Jim is not welcome at the family gettogethers, I won’t be attending either.
At this rate, I may be having a smaller wedding than I first thought.

I love the sauce

Hot sauce that is, hehe.
I hate dayjobs. If I could work for a place doing what I’m doing now, but only at night, that would rock. Oh well, at least I can sleep somewhat decent hours on holiday/extended weekends.
I got up at dawn to see Jessie off when her mom dropped by the house. I thought about going back to bed, but decided to play Vampire: the Masquerade Bloodlines for a couple of hours. (perfect game time is when the house is quiet) A new patch came out last week, so I’d been wanting to get in another game anyways. I’ve played about half of the clans already.
This week I’m a Ventrue.
Played until about 8:30 and went back to bed. Got up around 5, showered, and went by Zaxby’s for a quick lunch/dinner. (Yum, I love their hot sauces!!!)
Yesterday Jim and I left work early and caught X-Men 3: The Last Stand. OMG, what a TEAR-JERKER!!!! I won’t say that the movie was bad, per se` … but it definitely wasn’t what I expected. I won’t spoil it, but it wasn’t the shiny happy ending I was looking for. However, it DID leave an opening for another sequel, but I seriously doubt it will happen. The only concern I have now is that reactions to this movie may affect the Wolverine movie if/when it comes out.
Oh well … que` sera, sera.
I saw the previews for the new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest due out soon. I also saw a teaser for the new Nicolas Cage movie … Ghost Rider. OMG, it looks SECK-SEE as HELL!!
Also saw the previews to The Omen remake … I’ve no interest in seeing that one. The first one was bad enough, thank you. And I’ve too many demons of my own, I don’t want to watch anyone else’s.
I was reading online last night that there’s going to be another Hellboy movie (Hellboy 2: The Golden Army). Sweeet!!! There’s also going to be another Pumpkinhead movie, so I’m looking forward to that too!
Yay.
Happy Memorial Day (weekend post)

I don’t know what the plans are for the rest of the weekend, so I’m making this an early post as I might not be online Monday.
I would like to take a moment to pass on a link I saw on Beth’s site pointing to Lorie Byrd’s on the importance of not only to remember those who have stood up and given their all for this country, but also to teach our young ones the importance and real meaning of today. It’s not just a day off from work or school, or an excuse to go to the pool, beach, etc., or about the barbecue.
Anyways, she has a great list of links, and for those inclined, you’ll find many great tributes there.
Let us remember that “all gave some, and some gave all.”
