This is my digital sandbox and proverbial playground. I am a web designer living in Birmingham, Alabama. I'm an avid gamer, a former editor for Addons.Mozilla.Org, and spend a good deal of my time in the WordPress community. I am also an active Soldiers' Angels member and a Community Team Leader for Soldiers' Angels in Alabama. I am all this and much more, but in short I am: a web designer, a geek, a gamer and an aspiring super mom.

Outdated blog.. but maybe someone else will stumble upon this. I have the same problem has krafty. I follow the directions step by step, then save. My incoming port reverts to 143 on the Ocean.

so the whole idea behind IMAP is to have to only do a email process once and what i mean by this is if from my ocean device i delete or read a message as soon as i log onto the gmail from my regular pc web based connection i will see that the message has either been marked as read or deleted, depending what action i do from my ocean device. Do not get Gmail IMAP and "push email" service confused....Gmail IMAP is not push it simply provides a more simple and easier to manager "archiving system" if u will. if u want to get alerts to show u have new mail in your gmail mailbox i recommend u forward your email from your gmail mail account to your myhelio.com account. check out this link and this awesome forum to get the answers you are looking for. everyone is very helpful and you will get answers in a timely manner

Robin: Unlike POP, IMAP supports back and forth communication between your Ocean and Gmail. If you set up your Ocean to read your Gmail using IMAP, every time you read a message it will be marked as read on the web interface. If you delete a message on your desktop, it will be deleted from the web. (and so forth...)

However, if you use POP, you'll have to repeat all of those actions when you login via the Gmail web interface.

Umm...so if it still does not "push" the mail to my ocean, then there is effectively no difference whatesoever between using the pop and imap? What is the point of switching over then? I am confused.

Hi Andy,

It's still working for me. Have you changed your GMail password recently? Or have you changed any of the email/IMAP/POP/etc. settings?

I cant get this to work at all! I either get an invalid password error or server error. It worked one time and hasnt worked since. Anyone know what the prob could be? I doubled, triple quadrouple checked everything including my gmail settings
