@Kat - Thank you. :) I agree!

@Janette - That's true. I hear a lot of good things about Saban that remind me of Bear, so I'm hoping Saban can teach those boys a thing or two about football, and a lot more about being a man. That's what coaching SHOULD be, IMO.

ROLL TIDE! :)

@Wes - LOL, I forgive you even if you ARE a nasty ole Vols fan! ;)

Sorry we missed you and the girls last night. By the time we left Bessemer, I'm sure y'all were probably half-way through dinner. :(

Love the story, thanks for sharing! :D

It is your friendly neighborhood Vols fan. Bear was truly one of the best coaches ever. I does disturb me seeing so many fans of Bama dismiss whatever the current coach is in comparison to the Bear. There may be no other like him. I guess it would be like the Yankees never winning another championship again. It is hard being spoiled by so many years of having it as good as it was.
My dad would tell me so many stories about Bryant. He didn't like him but he respected him. He told me of the time when Tennessee first got artificial turf on their field and the first time the Bear visited the stadium, he stood in the endzone and chain smoked. He crushed every single one out in the field. One of the stadium officials ran over to him and said he couldn't do that because it would burn a hole in the turf. He said simply, "I know." :razz:
I figure he knew he was going to burn up the endzone one way or another.

Bear Bryant coached in the days of sports where character mattered more than fame or money. Too bad there aren't more men like him around today.

Great story, Nicki! I don't follow sports, but character shines through no matter the profession. I miss the days when true ladies and gentlemen were held up as heroes and as good examples...
