@John: I've been very pleased so far. :)

Everyone I've talked to in G'dale/F'dale who has Charter internet has loved it.

(heh, rest assured that if anything ever does go wrong, you can count on me blogging it! ;))

My Charter in Chalkville is the sh*t! It's hardly ever down, and if it is it's only for 1/2 to 1 hour. I get consistent 10meg downloads and sometimes hit 1meg uploads. Charter does not suck everywhere....just almost.

@JV: "You are honestly the only person I know who switched to Cable.
What happened with BellSouth/AT&T?"

Honestly, it's years of problems I've had with them. The two that have been ongoing were static on the phone and internet dropping sporadically. I've called, emailed, and snail-mailed letters of complaint and if I was lucky, I received a generic auto-mail response.

@Jo: "We’ve never had an issue fortunately with AT&T/Bellsouth — but then the only other option I have in town for fast access service is our local cable company and if it thinks about raining — its down."

It's funny, most people I know 25+ miles outside Birmingham have had no problem with BellSloth. *shrug* I know I'm not the only one in my neighborhood having these problems.

@Doc: "There is this lovely couple I know who live in Hueytown (or is it Hueyton??). They have been having so many problems with Charter cable that they want to switch to anything else but live too far out for DSL. So they suffer with Charter’s awful service. I sure hope y’all have it better there than they do. If you do wind up with better service, perhaps it can give them hope that Charter doesn’t suck everywhere in Alabama. *fingers crossed*"

Hueytown is correct. :)

Yeah, I've heard plenty of people tell me/us horror stories with Charter, and I've had my own problems dealing with them in the past, but in all fairness to them, I get the sense they're trying like hell to win back former customers around here.

One thing I will say about them, when I have called or emailed complaints in the past, they were very quick to respond and correct.

The way I see it: They are the lesser of two weasels. ;P
