Aionfox updated to version 1.2

April 16, 2010 by

I’ve uploaded the latest version of Aionfox to the Mozilla Firefox Addons site. Like the previous versions, it has not been approved by the Mozilla editors yet, but it can be downloaded by checking the “Let me install this experimental add-on.” box and installing directly from there.

This version is the “working” version for Firefox 3.6. Unfortunately, in updating for Firefox 3.6, localization was broken and has been removed. No other changes have been made YET — but I plan on uploading another update within the next week or so with updated content and will try to fix localization ASAP. So, for now, all of the NCsoft links point to the NA server. (I hope to have this corrected soon!)

This version of Aionfox was tested in Windows XP, Vista, and 7. If anyone has any questions or problems, please PLEASE let me know. :)

Aionfox issues with Firefox 3.6

This post is long overdue, I know. :p

Shortly after updating and resubmitting my Aionfox addon to the AMO sandbox, I realized that changes in the way Firefox 3.6 handles addons prevented it from functioning properly. (or at all). I’m in the process of researching this but free time has been scarce lately — things at work are uber-busy right now. Rest assured, I’m aware of the issue and plan to fix it.

For the time being, Aionfox version 1.0 works just fine in Firefox 3.5. If you had it installed previously before upgrading to Firefox 3.6 you can enable it via the Nightly Tester Tools. As it stands, version 1.1 does not work in Firefox 3.6. Considering it’s going to have to be pretty much re-written from scratch I’m most likely going to pull it from the development queue and take another look at the localization while I’m re-coding.

Note: I’ll be needing beta testers and will announce via Twitter and Facebook when the next version is ready for testing!

Here’s to hope

January 4, 2010 by

2009 was definitely “The Year of the Suck” (personally speaking). I’ve found myself looking forward to the new year in hope of a lot of positive changes coming our way. And I’d have to say that 2010 has had a promising start already. New Year’s Day we visited with friends and family that we haven’t seen in ages. On the 2nd we honored a friend who’s home on leave from Iraq with a LAN party. Yesterday we pretty much vegged and today I’m back at work, but I guess I can’t complain too much about that. I have a job, and know many who are still looking (including my husband).

I’ve spent the last couple months realizing and appreciating the things for which I am truly grateful. I have a husband and daughter who love me. We have a roof over our heads and food on the table. I have wonderful and supportive friends and loved ones. I have a job. I have hope … I hold on to faith that things will work out in the end — even if I can’t see how they will or am desperately afraid that they won’t.

This is the time of year most people make their resolutions, right? I see many things I don’t like about myself or my life that I’d like to change.

The “musts”

  • Get it together. I used to be better organized, and I definitely need to work on this — in both my professional and personal lives.
  • Continue to control my spending and stick to a budget. Jim’s being out of work initiated this, but it’s something that I need to keep in check more.
  • Lose weight and exercise more. Honestly, I don’t feel healthy and the extra weight I’ve gained since the wedding has had some negative effects on my general health and well-being. And, as much as I hate to admit to vanity, I really do think I looked a LOT better back then.
  • Implement a better backup solution and upgrade to Windows 7. My backup drive (which was a “backup” in name only) recently went T.U. and I was rightfully scared, thinking I had lost nearly 7 years worth of data, projects, family photos, etc. Luckily for me, my wonderful husband brought it back from the brink of death and recovered everything. I had been putting this off for the better part of a year and since I bought a copy of Windows 7, having a fresh system would be a great time to sit down and better organize my data and get a REAL backup solution in place.
  • Spend more time focused on my family. There’s always room for improvement — I want to be a better a wife, and a better mother.

The “might actually get done soon”

  • Release another Firefox addon. I’ve been testing a simple Firefox addon for Aion. It’s been tested on several different versions of Windows and the feedback I’ve received has been promising. While I’d like to learn how to advance my programming skills more, actually releasing a working project is a good step in the right direction. :)

The “would like’s”

  • Do more artistic stuff. I haven’t touched my graphics in ages. I have been neglecting my WordPress themes. I never really sit down and WRITE anymore. I need to work more on my creative outlets.
  • Blog more. Hopefully if/when things get better, I will have more time/energy/desire to blog more here. There’s so much that I want to talk about sometimes, but lack the time or desire to sit down and type it out.
  • Learn more. There are many things I’d love to learn. More cooking. More web design. More programming. Another language or three. I used to read up about anything and everything, and I need to start up again.

So here’s to a new year, and to hope. I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me.

Addons update

I noticed that at some point over the weekend, the latest version of my MonstersGame: Vampires vs Werewolves Menu addon was approved. YAY! :)

My mc chris Website Menu Navigation addon is still pending, but anyone who would like the updated version can scroll down and click “See All Versions” to see the pending update. (It will be marked as ‘experimental’ until it’s approved by the AMO team!)

I’m almost finished with the re-write for my MonstersGame addon, but I doubt I’ll be doing much to the mc chris one. I’ve been toying around with ideas for a couple other addons, but will need some permissions first for content/use (one of which includes a small business opportunity hopefully!).

I’ll post more info later!

Firefox addons updates

July 24, 2008 by

I know I said I would never update my old extensions, but I had a request from a user that tugged at my heart. A young man wrote to me pleading for an update to my MonstersGame: Vampires vs Werewolves Menu addon. Apparently his brother is stationed somewhere overseas and has access to the internet; they both play MG and have been keeping in touch that way.

What could I say except, “Ok, just for you two … ”

Updating the extension proved to be a little more work than I first thought. So much has changed from 2.x to 3. After wrestling with it for the last couple days, I’ve finally got a working version to upload to AMO.

The skinning isn’t working, so that’ll have to wait until the next release. But for now, my addons rest in the capable hands of the AMO reviewers and editors.

Pardon my progress…

I think the domain shuffle is pretty much through. I moved over the bulk of my domains last night and dropped 4 today. There may be the odd missing image or directory here or there, but I think I’ve covered about 98% of the site. You may also notice a change on the front page. I have removed my Firefox Extension Development page link from the navigation menu and added my Fanlistings. I doubt I will be continuing the development on the extensions I’ve done in the past, as I’m no longer involved in those projects. I may decide to start new ones in the 3.0 format later, but simply don’t have the time (or interest) to do it now.

Also, I have rearranged the sidebar a bit. Hopefully the recently blogged items are more visible now. (sorry ’bout that Jo! :)) I’ve also added a couple new collapsing sections, the newest being Local Link Love which features metro-area sites and organizations of which I’m involved, or have discussed here previously. Feel free to take a peek and stretch out a bit. :)

There are several new interests I’ve been wanting to add in for a while, so hopefully I’ll have time to make those modifications soon. Also, I will be working on my portfolio more, taking off older works and adding some newer ones. It needs re-structuring horribly, and hopefully Zooomr will be done with their move next week (so most of my images will start working again, LOL!). In the meantime I’m making short notes of what needs updating — while surfing the web looking for an appreciation gift for Jessie’s teacher. (funny there’s a whole slew of teacher gifts sites, or with teacher gift ideas in general)

Right now I’m wishing I hadn’t cleaned out the spams caught by Akismet because I ran across this nifty suggestion for handling splogs (spam blogs). Considering I get a ton of trackbacks from the same 8 or 10 or so, it won’t be long until I add a bit o’ code to the ole HTACCESS file to take care of ‘em!

mc chris Website Menu Navigation updated to 0.200 on AMO website

Extension was denied AGAIN by the same reviewer. Apparently he found two more problems he had previously missed but no error information or other details given, so I have NO FUCKING IDEA what he’s running in order to recreate these. I’ve tried on several machines and different configurations and had no problems, and no one else reported problems.

grrrrrrrrrrrrr me thinks he’s not testing with a vanilla profile!

Plus, he’s not responding to my emails and questions, so I resubmitted the extension to AMO with the same file, updated version, and a long-assed note addressed specifically to him. If he denies it again, I’m filing a complaint with the Moz moderators.

mc chris Website Menu Navigation updated to 0.20 on AMO website

One of the AMO reviewers had a problem with the Contact link (last menu option), so I removed it and had to change the version so the AMO system will take the updated file.

That is the only difference between the version hosted here and the one that will be hosted on AMO.

When I get time I’ll revisit the issue and may re-add it when/if fixed.
