For Moms

Mother’s Day is coming up and a friend sent me to a site showing the ring that her kids are giving her for Mother’s Day. (actually I think “Dad” is paying for it, as they’re 6 and 8, LOL!) It’s very sweet, they told her about the mother’s ring that they picked out and showed her the catalog, and then told her that “it’s a surprise!”

Kids are so cute!

Hers will look something like that, but will have the kids and hubby’s names. I thought it was very sweet and have thought about getting something similar for myself.

Jessie asked me last weekend what I wanted for Mother’s Day … I said, “A clean house.” She laughed and said, “No, really!”

I think she thought I was kidding. ;)

Summertime approaches

Summer is almost in full swing. Jessie’s heading into her last month — well, really 3 weeks — left of school and she’s SO ready for summer to get here! She and Jim have this deal, if she brings home straight A’s on her report card, he will get her the Nintendo DS and Dogs game she’s been wanting.

She’s worked REALLY hard this nine weeks, and if she’s not spot on, it will be close! She had a shaky start at the beginning of the year and this is the first year that she did not spend the whole time on an Honor Roll at all. (until this year, she’d always had straight A’s) I’m really proud of her, she found her motivation (a game system/video game … what a wonderful little geekling!) and has not let up, going full tilt boogie studying and making sure her homework was always checked for mistakes.

This geeky momma is so proud! ;)

Her class is going to the Zoo next week, and guess who is chaperoning. Yup, yours truly. (Don’t worry, I’ll pack body armor and mace! ;)) She’s excited to have me coming along, and I’m just as equally excited to be going. She’s still in that cute stage where it’s OK for me to be around while she’s sitting and talking to her friends … I’d better enjoy it while it lasts! LOL!!

Shopping!

Jim and I will hopefully be resuming furniture shopping soon. The new bed is almost paid off and we now need a new mattress. We’ve been to several places and found that we both liked one of the Serta models. We tried out the Tempur-pedic from one place, but you know? I was surprised to find that I really don’t care for the memory foam mattresses.

After that, we’ll probably get a new couch, but that may have to wait until we get a new house — the den is pretty cramped as it is! We got a new dining room table from my grandmother, and we both have odds and ends still in storage.

Part of me thinks it’ll be kind of fun re-arranging and replacing everything. The ‘paying for it’ part still sucks though. ;P

Magnolia Weekend

Caution: Busy weekend ahead!

Jim, Jess and I will be setting up and preparing for the the Magnolia Festival today and tomorrow. A big thanks to Jeremy Haynes and the NSR staff for lending me the equipment I needed to finish setting up the booth! :)

The Bama Angels site has really taken off and I’m hoping to get the word out about it this weekend and in coming months. I’m looking for news and events posters, so if any area SA members are interested, holler at me!

Sharing

I had set up an auto-post thingy in Del.icio.us, but it hasn’t posted yet so I don’t know if there’s a problem, or it has to be up a certain time before it starts? (scratching my head on that one…) I have been sharing plenty via Google Reader though, so feel free to check those out anytime! :)

Funny moment

Jessie and I stopped by the grocery store last night to pick up a few things I needed to make dinner. I had stopped at the pharmacy section to look for some allergy medicine for her and when I turned around, she was standing in front of the acne products with a funny look on her face. I asked her what she was looking for, and she pointed to one of the bottles and says, “This says it’s the best acne treatment, is that true?”

I replied that I didn’t know (because all those products either make me break out or dry out my skin something awful!), and asked her why she wanted to know. She said, “I think I got a bump on my face and I need something to make it go away.”

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that her “bump” was a mosquito bite.

I laughed and told her that I had something for it already at home and not to worry, we’d take care of it.

Self improvement

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately thinking about how I can improve different aspects about myself and my life. I’ve taken up meditation again, and am attending a class at UAB specializing in shamatha meditation. I’ll also be taking a tai chi class starting next month. I still haven’t found a new place to workout. I would like to pick up yoga and/or pilates again, but the places where I used to go are either closed or not having those classes due to lack of instructors.

Oh well, hopefully something will come along soon. :) I figure, if anything, it’s warmer now and I can take up walking and running at the civic center again. That’s free. Free is good. :)

I want to lose a little weight, not much, but close enough to my pre-wedding weight. I can really tell a difference with the amount I’ve gained back and the lack of consistent exercise/activity … I ache more and generally don’t feel as well as I did. (and it doesn’t help that my meds make me want to eat EVERYTHING in sight!)

The other day when Jim and I stopped by Wal-mart, I stopped to look at a hoodia display. I haven’t seen a whole lot about this particular supplement, but I do know several people who swear by it. Part of me (the logical part) tells me that I need to talk to my doctor and see about getting something that she recommends, but another part of me wonders if it really works and maybe I should try it …

Of course, every time I bring up my weight with my doctor, she tells me that I don’t need to lose any. :P

Busy time and upcoming schedule of events

It’s busy time! Sorry I’ve been so quiet lately, work is busy, home is busy, and what little spare time I’ve had has been for cooking, eating, and sleeping — and pretty much in that order. Jessie’s into her last semester of the school year. Things are starting to pick back up at work. Jim’s really busy at NSR.

Coming up

My birthday is next week. Considering nobody’s asked me what I want yet, I’m hoping for something to go shopping with. *grin* Though cash would be nice … I’ve been eying a very nice Smith & Wesson .38 special.

Things with Soldiers’ Angels has been going great! I’ve been gathering materials for the upcoming Magnolia Festival and will have everything I need for the event mid next week. I’m looking forward to meeting people from this and neighboring communities and will hopefully gain some new SA members from it! :)

Time to roll, Tide!

Alabama’s A-Day Game is this upcoming weekend, so Jess and I will be headed to T-town to meet up with Teresa and her loved ones. I’ll be gathering a few travel supplies over the next few days and (if Jim lets me borrow his camera) hopefully get some great A-Day pictures! :)

Time to design

I noticed on the Lunarpages blog a week or so back that they are having another WordPress design contest. YAY! :) I’ve started on a few designs to enter, and will post a sneak peek of the first one here when it’s ready (hopefully this weekend, but realistically early next week).
